Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 October 2026

This privacy policy explains which data is processed when you use the Booost Pro app. It is addressed to parents and legal guardians as well as teachers.

1. Controller

The controller responsible for data processing within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

Scientific Learning Lab Hannover
Institut fĂĽr Sportwissenschaft
Am Moritzwinkel 6
30167 Hannover
Germany
Email: alfredoeffenberg@gmail.com

2. Key points at a glance

  • Booost Pro does not require an account or login.
  • The child’s name, learning results and handwriting stay on the device. They are not transmitted to us.
  • The app contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking tools.
  • The app currently contains no in-app purchases.
  • The app connects to the internet only when downloading word packs, for handwriting recognition (loading the recognition model) and for push notifications, if you allow them.

3. Data stored only on the device

The app stores the following data exclusively on your device:

  • the child’s name and the profile name you enter in the app
  • training results and learning progress
  • the letters and words written in the app (handwriting)

This data is not transmitted to us or to third parties. It is deleted when you uninstall the app.

4. Handwriting recognition

The app recognises handwriting using Google ML Kit, a service provided by Google LLC. The recognition itself takes place on the device. The letters and words written do not leave the device.

For recognition to work, the app downloads the recognition model from Google’s servers. For technical reasons, the device’s IP address is transmitted to Google in the process. ML Kit may also send technical information about the performance and use of the recognition feature to Google. This information does not contain any handwriting data.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, as handwriting recognition is the core function of the app.

5. Push notifications

If you allow notifications, we inform you, for example, about new word packs. For this we use Firebase Cloud Messaging, a service provided by Google LLC. A technical identifier of the device (push token) is transmitted to Google so that the notification can be delivered.

The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, which you give via the operating system’s permission prompt. You can turn off notifications at any time in your device settings. The app also works without notifications.

6. Downloading word packs

The app downloads word packs from our server at sonification-online.com. For technical reasons, the device’s IP address is transmitted to the server and stored there briefly in log files. We do not combine this data with other data.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, as the download is necessary to provide the learning content.

7. Downloading the app

The app is provided via the Apple App Store and Google Play. Apple and Google respectively are responsible for data processing during the download. Their privacy policies apply.

8. Recipients and transfers to third countries

The recipient of the technical data mentioned in sections 4 and 5 is Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. Data may be transferred to the USA in the process. Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

We do not sell data and do not share data for advertising purposes.

9. Retention period

Data stored on the device is kept until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Log data on our server is deleted after a short time. The push token becomes invalid when you uninstall the app.

10. Children

Booost Pro is aimed at primary school children and is usually set up together with parents or teachers. We do not collect personal data from children for advertising, profiling or analytics purposes. The child’s name and learning results stay on the device.

If you are a parent or legal guardian and have questions about your child’s data, please contact us at the email address given in section 1.

11. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights:

  • access to the data processed (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • objection to processing (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • withdrawal of consent with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR)

As the learning data is stored only on your device, you can view and delete it yourself at any time. For all other requests, an email to the address given in section 1 is sufficient.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony (Der Landesbeauftragte fĂĽr den Datenschutz Niedersachsen).

12. Changes to this privacy policy

We update this privacy policy when the app or the legal situation changes, for example when in-app purchases are added. The current version is always available on this page. The date given above applies.
